The dreaded two-week wait

If you have to have fertility treatment, you will have to endure the two-week wait #TWW which is that period of time from embryo transfer to when you can do a pregnancy test.

I’ve only experienced it once as our treatment was successful the first time, yet I’ve learnt from the many conversations I’ve seen online and had with guests on the podcast it can be the worst part.

Often we feel abandoned by the clinic, which is something that is improving as clinics now are listening to patients and checking in more often.

Kate talked about how she tells her clients to set an intention for the 14 days in terms of what they want with their family and friends, so you’re in control of how the two goes, which is sound advice.

In this week’s episode, we asked for your advice on what to do and this is a brilliant checklist to save for when you reach the TWW:

1) Expect and accept that your emotions will be all over the place, if you need to shout, cry, call your friend for a bitch do what you feel and don’t feel guilty.

2) Keep things to yourself if you want to, you don’t have to share with family and friends.

3) Remind yourself you’ve done your best and the next stage is out of your hands

4) Think about starting a new hobby to stop you from dwelling.

5) See something new or if that’s not possible just get away from everyday

6) Go for walks get away from the norm.

7) Treat yourself – massage, nice meals

8) Focus on yourselves rather than being with family, or friends.

9) Activities such as yoga, meditation, baking and eating.

10) Know there are no hard and fast rules. Follow your gut and do what feels right which we’re big fans of. You know you ultimately.

11) Working or taking time off is a personal choice – for some staying busy is key, for others they blame themselves for being at work.

12) Stay active in your mind and in your body.

13) Make plans you’ll enjoy and see lovely people who make you feel good.

14) Making meal plans of what you’re going to eat which helps you feel in control.

15) Try not to symptom spot.

16) Don’t test just do the official one – so you only have to deal with one outcome.

17) Even when you get that positive test, you’re straight into another TWW for the HCG and heartbeat scan, so you’ve got to hold your nerve.
