The gift of a child is an incredible thing. Egg, sperm, and embryo donation involves a friend, family member, or stranger giving you something that you couldn’t have had without them. But of course, there are lots of complications to consider  – should the donation be altruistic or commercial; should your child have a right to seek out their genetic parent when they grow up, or is it OK if they don’t have that option? With DNA testing advancing all the time, will you ever be able to stop them?

In this session, theatre artists Maud Dromgoole (creator of Mary’s Babies, the story of Mary Barton the pioneer of donor sperm insemination) and Kazuko Hohki (widely acclaimed for her autobiographical live artwork but who is unsure whether she will ever be able to make a show out of her own incredible donor conception story) will explore the dark and the light of the gift of donation. The artists will be joined on stage by Nina Barnsley,  Director of the Donation Conception Network, and Professor Nicky Hudson from the Centre for Reproduction Research at De Montfort University. Chaired by Victoria McDonald, Health and Social Care Correspondent, Channel 4 News.
